Those who have plans this Bank Holiday weekend might need to bring an umbrella as the weekend comes to a close.
The August Bank Holiday is just around the corner, and with events such as All Together Now taking place this weekend, many have been worried that they’re set for a washout.
But it appears that while the rain will stay away for a few days, the rain is expected to return properly on Sunday and the Bank Holiday Monday.
Taking to Twitter (X) on Friday morning, meteorologist Alan O’Reilly who runs the Carlow Weather page wrote that Friday has started off fresh for most of the country, with some showers in the north.
The latest models, he added, show very little rain — until around 4pm on Sunday.
This forecast has been firmed up by Met Éireann, which said that Friday will be bright with sunny spells broken up by scattered showers in the west and north. The odd sharp shower is possible in Ulster, but will ease in the evening. Highest temperatures of 15C to 21C.
Friday night will be mostly dry with clear spells and just a few isolated showers, turning somewhat cloudier in the west, north and midlands. Lowest temperatures of 7C to 11C.
Saturday will be dry for most of the country, with isolated showers and sunny spells turning hazier in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 16C to 22C, coolest in the northwest.
Saturday night will be largely dry, but becoming cloudier from the south overnight. There’s a chance of light rain or drizzle in the southwest later in the night, while mist and fog patches develop in a light to variable breeze. Lowest temps of 8C to 12C.
Sunday will see things take a turn, as a largely cloudy day will see outbreaks of light rain and drizzle develop, most likely across the south and west. It will still be warm, though, with highest temperatures of 17C to 21C.
Sunday night will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, spreading northwards across the country. A milder night, however, with temperatures not falling below 12C to 16C.
There’s some uncertainty for the Bank Holiday Monday, but current indications suggest that it will be cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain, as well as a slight chance of heavy downpours. Humid too, with highest temperatures of 17C to 23C.
There’s low confidence in the forecast for the rest of the week, but it’s expected that conditions will remain changeable with spells of rain alongside drier interludes. Temperatures are also expected to remain in the high teens to low 20s.
