A West Waterford man has been charged with his father’s murder near Dungarvan in April.

At Dungarvan District Court this morning, 45 year old John Cashman Jnr appeared before Judge John O Leary charged with the murder of his father, 73-year-old John Cashman Snr., at Rockfield, Cappagh on Monday April 13th.

Detective Garda Martin Keohane of Dungarvan Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

The accused replied no comment when charged.

He had previously appeared before Carrick-on-Suir District Court charged with assault causing harm – a charge which was struck out before the court this morning.

The issue of bail was not before the court as bail cannot be granted on a murder charge in the district court.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear before Clonmel District Court tomorrow (Tuesday) June 23rd via video link.
