Recent arrests in Waterford City and County show and increase in detection for driving while intoxicated, according to Gardaí.

There were 13 arrests for this offence from July 24th to August 3rd.

Of these 13, four drivers were found to have consumed alcohol above the legal limit and the remaining nine drivers tested positive for either cocaine, opiates, cannabis or benzodiazepines.

Speaking on this week’s Waterford Garda Watch, Sergeant Deirdre O’Neill said: “There is no safe level for the consumption of these drugs while driving. They can stay in your systems for days after consumption.”
