Waterford PPN has officially launched its 2026 Community & Voluntary Awards, celebrating the volunteers, community groups and organisations making a difference across Waterford City and County.

The launch took place recently at the Park Hotel in Dungarvan and brought together representatives from Waterford’s community and voluntary sector, elected representatives and guests.

The annual awards recognise the contribution made by volunteers and groups across the county, with nominations now open.

There are seven group award categories, including Age Friendly, Children & Youth, Community Safety, Environment, Heritage & Biodiversity, Health & Wellbeing, Inclusive Communities and Spick & Span.

Individual awards include Rising Star Volunteer of the Year, Waterford Volunteer of the Year and the Volunteer Legacy Award.

Eight sponsors are supporting the event in total.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Liam Brazil, said the awards recognise “the heart and soul of our communities” and the people who give their time without seeking recognition.

The launch also provided an opportunity to remember Marion O’Mara, a valued member, colleague and friend of Waterford PPN who recently passed away.

Speaking on behalf of the PPN, Secretariat member Michael J. Walsh paid tribute to Marion, saying she had generously given her time, experience, energy and friendship to the organisation over the past eight years.

The 2026 Waterford PPN Community & Voluntary Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 5, at the Park Hotel, Dungarvan.
