Waterford is one of Ireland’s busiest counties for new car registrations, according to new research from 123.ie Insurance.
The study, which analysed Motorstats data for 2025, found 2,681 new cars were registered in Waterford last year. That’s the fifth-highest rate in the country, working out at just over 2,100 new cars for every 100,000 people.
Petrol remained the most popular engine type, with 768 new registrations. Electric vehicles are also continuing to grow, with 478 fully electric cars registered across the county in 2025.
That means almost one in every five new cars sold in Waterford last year was fully electric, reflecting the growing shift towards lower-emission vehicles among local motorists.
