
A man has been charged in connection with a Waterford fatal assault that claimed the life of a woman in her 40s earlier this week.
The accused, aged in his 30s, is due to appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court at 7:30pm this evening.
Victim named locally
The woman who died has been named locally as Yveta Donovalova (44).
Originally from Czechia, Ms Donovalova had been living in Ireland for almost two decades and was well known in the local community.
Emergency services responded to Grange Heights incident
The fatal assault occurred at a residential property in Grange Heights on Monday evening.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 6:15pm, where Ms Donovalova was found with serious injuries.
She was taken to University Hospital Waterford but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Man charged and due in court
Gardaí have confirmed that the man arrested in connection with the incident has now been formally charged.
He is scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court this evening as investigations continue.
Investigation ongoing
A full investigation remains underway, led by a Senior Investigating Officer, with an incident room established at Waterford Garda Station.
The scene at Grange Heights has undergone forensic examination, while the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination is expected.
A Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to support the family of the deceased.
Appeal for information
Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have information to come forward.
They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the Grange Heights area between 6pm and 6:30pm on Monday evening and may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam recordings.

The death of Ms Donovalova has shocked the local community.
Local representatives described the incident as deeply upsetting, with tributes paid to her as a valued member of the area.
A vigil is due to take place in the Grange Heights area at half-past-seven this evening.
