Plans have been lodged for a new temporary car park with more than 200 spaces on Newtown Road in Waterford City.

The application, submitted by Noel Frisby, relates to the former Brooks site on the Newtown Road.

Permission is being sought for the temporary use of the lands to provide 221 standard car parking spaces and eight accessible spaces.

The proposal also includes associated site development works.

The issue of traffic congestion in the Newtown area was raised separately at a public meeting in the Woodlands Hotel this week, amid concerns during school drop-off and collection times.

Fr Liam Power raised the former Brooks site during the meeting, with hopes that a turning circle could be installed at the proposed car park to help alleviate congestion in the area.

The planning application for the car park is currently before Waterford City and County Council, with a decision due by November 12th.
