Tomorrow night, your bus journey could become a whole lot more entertaining.

Waterford Buses Transform for Culture Night

To mark Culture Night, Waterford’s W1, W2 and W3 bus routes are being transformed into rolling stages, with musicians and poets bringing a little culture, music and, most importantly, craic to the Friday evening commute.

From 6pm to 8pm on Friday, September 18th, passengers can expect live performances as they travel through the city, with commuters also encouraged to get involved.

Have a favourite poem? Bring it along.

Fancy a sing song? Even better.

And if you do take the plunge and contribute something yourself on the Waterford buses, there could be prizes, lollipops and other treats up for grabs.

Gráinne Kennedy loves Buses

The idea is the brainchild of Gráinne Kennedy, Climate Action Officer with Waterford City and County Council, who told The Big Breakfast Blaa that she was inspired by videos showing commuters in cities like London and New York turning their daily journeys into something a little more unusual.

From people dressing up as Santa to commuters holding fun signs, Gráinne thought Waterford buses could put its own spin on the concept.

And what better way to do it than by turning the bus into an ‘agent of craic’?

The initiative has received backing from Creative Ireland and combines sustainability with culture, bringing performances directly to people as they go about their everyday lives.

Gráinne was also keen to give a special shout out to Bus Éireann and, of course, the drivers on the Waterford buses, who are likely to have a rather more interesting Friday evening than usual.

So, if you’re hopping on the W1, W2 or W3 tomorrow evening, keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Culture Night takes place tomorrow, Friday September 18th, with the bus performances running from 6pm to 8pm.
