A weather advisory has been issued for Waterford, with heavy showers and longer spells of rain expected to become widespread from the southwest on Saturday night and throughout Sunday.

The advisory, issued by Met Éireann at 9.18am on Saturday, is valid from 3am on Sunday, August 30th, until 3am on Monday, August 31st.

Some localised torrential downpours are expected during the period, with the potential for thunderstorms, lightning and associated gusty winds.

Met Éireann says the heaviest showers will be hit and miss, but warns that some localised flooding may occur as a result of the intense rainfall.

People in Waterford are being advised to remain aware of changing conditions, particularly during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
