Uisce Éireann is investigating reports of discolouration in the water supply affecting customers in Tycor and surrounding areas of Waterford City.
Some instances of discolouration have been reported following temporary disturbances in the network caused by increased water flows from hydrant use during the recent fire in the city.
Maura Phelan, Uisce Éireann Water Networks Operations Manager for Waterford, said: “We acknowledge the frustration and concern that discolouration can cause and thank customers for their patience. We expect any temporary discolouration currently being experienced to settle within the next 24 hours as the network returns to normal.”
Customers experiencing discoloured water from their cold kitchen tap are advised to run the tap for several minutes until it runs clear. If the water does not return to a clear colour, customers are advised not to drink it as a precaution and to contact Uisce Éireann using the details below.
Uisce Éireann reiterates that water is safe to drink when it is running clear.
“We encourage customers experiencing issues to contact our dedicated team on 1800 278 278, as this will help us to better understand and respond to the affected areas.”
Uisce Éireann also offers a free text alert service providing real-time updates for local issues. Customers can sign up using their Eircode and mobile number at water.ie.
