A local Tidy Towns group has appealed to visitors to properly discard of litter and respect the areas they visit.

The current high temperatures have brought huge crowds to seaside locations, including Tramore.

In a Facebook post, Tramore Tidy Towns highlighted a huge amount of litter left on the beach yesterday (Monday) which they described as “the worst ever”.

In total, volunteers collected 42 towels, 12 boxes of empty beer bottles, one full box of Vodka bottles, 32 pairs of socks, 21 pairs of underwear, in addition to “normal litter”.

“We have never seen it as bad,” they said. “Last year we had a heatwave and still didn’t see what we witnessed this evening. Please, please help us keep our beach clean. A few local people also helped with a litter pick before we came, thank you.”
