Tramore parish priest Fr Richard O’Halloran has celebrated his Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years since his ordination to the priesthood.

A special Jubilee Mass was held in Holy Cross Church in Tramore last night, with family, friends, parishioners and members of the clergy gathering to mark the significant milestone.

A Papal Apostolic Blessing was also presented to Fr Richard in recognition of his 25 years of priestly ministry.

The Mass was concelebrated by 14 priests, while Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan was also in attendance. Members of the wider O’Halloran family joined the celebrations.

Amongst those to support him on the evening were Monsignor Michael O’Mahony, Fr. Thaddeus and Fr. Michael Toomey.

Speaking to WLR’s Dymphna Nugent following the ceremony at the school hall in Glór na Mara National School, Fr Richard reflected on his journey to the priesthood and the family who supported him along the way.

A family who stood behind him

Fr Richard grew up in Carrickbeg, Co Waterford, in what he described as a loving home surrounded by his parents and sisters.

He recalled how his family played a huge role in his decision to enter formation for the priesthood.

While they certainly challenged him on the decision, they ultimately made it clear that he had their full support, whatever path he chose.

Fr Richard’s father sadly died just a year into his formation, making the support of his family even more significant as he continued his journey.

Reflecting on the influence his family has had throughout his life, Fr Richard O’Halloran said:

“All that I am is because of my family.”

He spoke warmly about the love and encouragement he received from his family and the reassurance that home would always be somewhere he could return to.

Twenty-five years after his ordination, Fr Richard is now marking his Silver Jubilee with the same sense of gratitude towards the people who helped shape his life and vocation.
