A teenager has become the third person to die in an e-scooter crash in less than a year.

The incident occurred on Carpenter’s Way in Carlow Town on Monday, June 29 shortly after 8.30pm.

Two people, a juvenile male in his late teens and an adult male in his late teens, were injured after falling from the e-scooter.

The juvenile male in his late teens suffered serious injuries, and was transported to St Luke’s Hospital before being conveyed to Beaumont Hospital where he later passed away.

The second person on the e-scooter, a man in his late teens, was medically assessed at the scene. It was determined that he didn’t require immediate hospitalisation.

This is the third fatality involving e-scooters since August 2025, and the first fatality since Christmas Day 2025 involving an e-scooter.

The scene of the crash remains preserved for forensic examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and the road is currently closed. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from Carpenters Way around the time of the collision are also asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
