Gardaí are investigating after the body of a woman was discovered off the coast of Donegal.

The body of the adult woman was discovered on the coastline at Horn Head, Dunfanaghy in Co Donegal on Thursday evening (July 16).

Gardaí and the Coast Guard helped recover the body, which was subsequently removed to the mortuary at Letterkenny University Hospital.

‘Gardaí and the Coast Guard were alerted after the body of an adult woman was discovered on the coastline at Horn Head, Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal, at around 6:00 pm on 16th July 2026,’ a statement from Gardaí told Extra.ie.

‘The body was recovered by the Coast Guard and removed to the mortuary at Letterkenny University Hospital.

‘The local Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem will be arranged. The outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation.’
