A State apology will be offered this afternoon to the victims of paedophile Bill Kenneally.

The former Waterford basketball coach died in prison last month shortly after the publication of a Commission of Investigation report which found a serious dereliction of duty by investigating Gardaí.

The Government Chief Whip Mary Butler has also conceded there was a cover up by some of Kenneally’s relatives who were Fianna Fáil politicians – despite the investigation finding no collusion.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin will deliver an apology on behalf of the State in the Dáil chamber this afternoon.
