The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Solas Cancer Support Centre took place on Thursday, 9th July, marking an important year in the charity’s history.
In 2026, Solas celebrates 25 years of supporting people affected by cancer, while also commemorating 15 years since the opening of its Williamstown Centre and 10 years of service at its Dungarvan Centre.
The AGM also marked the retirement of Trustee Barry Monaghan, who has served as Chair of the charity since 2020.
Barry’s association with Solas spans almost three decades and includes a pivotal role in the development of the Williamstown Centre. As head of the design team, he was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition, with planning for the Centre beginning as early as 2007.
Trustee Paddy McMahon has been appointed as the new Chair of Solas Cancer Support Centre.
Having joined the Board in 2022, Paddy has chaired the Client Services Review and Development Committee and has also served on the Governance and Audit Committee.
Speaking following his appointment, Paddy paid tribute to his predecessor’s outstanding contribution:
“In taking on the role of Chair, I do so with enormous respect for the work Barry has done over so many years. His vision, commitment and leadership have helped shape Solas into the organisation it is today, from the planning and development of our Williamstown Centre through to guiding the charity as Chair over the past five years. On behalf of the Board, our staff, volunteers and everyone who has benefited from Solas, I want to sincerely thank Barry for his outstanding contribution. As we celebrate 25 years of Solas, we are building on a remarkable legacy, and I look forward to working with our dedicated Board, and team to ensure we continue providing compassionate, professional support to individuals and families affected by cancer for many years to come.”
