Smoke from the ongoing wildfire on Slievenamon is continuing to travel across parts of Waterford as changing wind conditions carry it further afield.

Smoke has been reported in Waterford city, as well as across Tramore, Kilmeaden and the Comeragh District.

The wildfire in County Tipperary has now entered its fifth day, with efforts continuing to contain the blaze after it moved to the north-eastern side of the mountain.

A multi-agency response remains in place, involving fire crews from across the region, local farmers and contractors, and military helicopters assisting with firefighting efforts.

The community on the southern side of Slievenamon has been heavily involved in the response, with local farmers, contractors and members of the fire service working into the early hours to tackle the blaze.

The changing wind direction has now resulted in smoke travelling into Waterford, with reports also emerging from parts of South Kilkenny and other areas of South Tipperary.

Members of the public in Waterford are being asked to exercise caution, particularly those with respiratory conditions, and to follow HSE advice if affected by smoke.

The firefighting operation is continuing today as crews work to bring the Slievenamon wildfire under control.
