A ‘righteous anger’ exists in the local community following yesterday’s fatal house fire in Waterford City in which four members of the same family died..

That’s according to parish priest at Sacred Heart Church, The Folly in Waterford, Father Gerry Chestnutt, who spoke earlier on Déise Today.

“A righteous anger is when you know something has happened that shouldn’t have happened,” he said.

“Not only are we devastated with grief, we’re angry this should have happened and that it was deliberate, knowing there was a family in a house with four young children.”

Fr Chestnutt praised the response of the local community and encouraged people to talk to one another.

The Diocese of Waterford and Lismore is inviting the public to attend a prayer vigil for the four victims of yesterday’s house fire.

It’s taking place at Sacred Heart Church in The Folly at five o’clock this evening.

The Diocese is encouraging people to come together in prayer for those who lost their lives, their grieving families, and everyone affected by the tragedy.
