The public is being urged to avoid the Coumshingaun Loop Walk as Waterford Fire Service deals with an active hillside fire in the Comeragh Mountains.

The fire is located adjacent to the popular walking trail, with a significant amount of smoke reported in the Kilclooney area.

Fire crews are currently on the ground monitoring and responding to the incident, with some sections of the fire situated on steep and inaccessible terrain.

Members of the public are being asked not to travel to the area or attempt the Coumshingaun Loop Walk while emergency services continue their work.

Waterford Fire Service says the restrictions are in place to allow crews to respond to the incident safely.

No further details have been released at this time.
