People across County Waterford are being invited to have their say on plans aimed at improving the visitor experience and encouraging tourists to explore more of the county.

Fáilte Ireland and Waterford City and County Council are developing the Waterford Visitor Dispersal and Orientation Strategy.

The strategy aims to create a more connected visitor experience by improving orientation and encouraging visitors to explore Waterford’s natural assets, activities and attractions, while supporting local communities.

It will also look at improving access to visitor information and encouraging more sustainable travel options.

The strategy will complement the Waterford Destination and Experience Development Plan, which sets out the wider tourism development vision for County Waterford and its role within Ireland’s Ancient East.

Work so far has included a detailed analysis of visitor infrastructure across the county, with the emerging strategy now being developed.

The project team is asking people who live, work and visit Waterford to share their knowledge, experience and ideas.

Head of Ireland’s Ancient East at Fáilte Ireland, Brian O’Flynn, said Waterford has a wide-ranging tourism offering, from the city centre to its coastal and rural destinations.

He said the strategy will help strengthen how visitors access, navigate and experience the county, while supporting sustainable tourism growth.

The appointed consultants, The Paul Hogarth Company, are now seeking feedback to help test, refine and develop the emerging

proposals.
