WLR has unveiled two brand-new fully electric Street Team vehicles, as the station gears up for one of its busiest summers ever of outside broadcasts and live events.

The latest additions bring WLR’s electric fleet to four vehicles, reinforcing the station’s commitment to sustainability.

This summer, the WLR Street Team and its solar-powered Outside Broadcast Unit will travel thousands of kilometres, broadcasting live from some of the biggest events across Waterford City and County. From the Spraoi Festival and the GAA World Games to the Tramore Racing Festival, All Together Now and the Dungarvan Show, WLR will once again be at the heart of the action.

The station will also be broadcasting from all of Waterford FC away games and Waterford GAA club games, bringing live coverage from pitches across the county throughout the season.

Supporting the busy schedule is WLR’s innovative solar-powered Outside Broadcast Unit, fitted with roof-mounted solar panels that help power equipment while reducing emissions and fuel consumption. Together with the station’s growing fleet of electric vehicles, the investment reflects WLR’s ongoing focus on reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining a strong presence in communities throughout the region. The two new Peugeots were supplied by the team at T+C Motors in Waterford City.

“Our Journalists, presenters and Street Team are on the road every day during the summer, meeting listeners and bringing WLR to the biggest news stories and events across Waterford,” said Michael Byrne, CEO of WLR. “We’re delighted to expand our electric fleet. Combined with our solar-powered Outside Broadcast Unit, these additions are helping us reduce our environmental impact while continuing to deliver the local coverage and community connection that WLR is known for.”
