A man has been arrested after the body of a woman was found following a fatal incident in Co Galway.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning (May 28) when Gardaí were called to an emergency residential premises on the Galway Road in Clifden.

The body of a woman aged in her 30s was found deceased at a nearby location.

Gardaí have confirmed that a man, also in his 30s, has been arrested in connection with the incident, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Gardaí have said that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time, and are following a definite line of enquiry.

The scene has been preserved for an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau, and the Offices of the Coroner and State Pathologist have been notified.

The body will be removed in due course, and a post mortem examination will be carried out.

The results of the post-mortem examination will assist in determining the course of the ongoing investigation, the statement said.

Gardaí added that there is no additional information at this time.
