A man charged with a firearm offence in Waterford City has been remanded in custody for a further two weeks.
On Friday last, Gardaí received a report of an incident in the Broad Street area of Waterford City at around 4.40pm.
A 42-year-old was arrested in connection with the alleged production of a firearm. Video footage of the alleged incident was widely shared online.
Thomas Cullen, of Prospect House, Coolfin, Portlaw, was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and appeared before Clonmel District Court on Saturday last.
Mr. Cullen was charged under section 9A and 9(5) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, for the unlawful possession of a realistic imitation firearm and for producing said firearm with the intent to cause fear or intimate others.
On Tuesday, he subsequently appeared at a sitting of Waterford District Court before Judge Kevin Staunton via video link.
He was represented by solicitor Ken Cunningham, who noted that he was subject to a ‘continuing psychiatric evaluation’.
He was remanded in custody for a further two weeks.
