A 45-year-old man has been charged with the murder of an Irish woman in Melbourne, Australia.

The woman has been named locally as Annmarie O’Reilly, who was originally from Co Tipperary.

Emergency services were called to a house on Ferntree Gully Road yesterday morning following reports of an injured woman.

Ms O’Reilly, who was in her 30s, was found at the property with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a man was arrested nearby and taken into custody shortly afterwards.

He has since been charged with murder and appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via video link.

The 45-year-old was remanded in custody and is due to appear before the court again on 23 February 2027.

It is understood the man is also Irish and that he was known to Ms O’Reilly.

The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain under investigation. The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.

The woman’s brother, Jimmy O’Reilly, paid tribute to her in a post on social media.

‘Rest it peace to my beautiful sister Annmarie, the nicest woman you’d meet, the best mother to her kids,’ he wrote on Facebook. ‘May you get the best bed in heaven … love you so much.’
