A man in his 20s has died and another person is in a critical condition following a single-vehicle crash in Co Limerick.

The fatal collision happened on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, at approximately 2.40am on Sunday, September 20.

Gardaí said the collision involved a car which struck a tree.

The male driver, aged in his 20s, was fatally injured in the crash.

His body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Two male passengers were also in the vehicle.

One passenger, aged in his 20s, was taken to University Hospital Limerick and remains in a critical condition.

The second passenger, an adult teenager, was also taken to hospital and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The road remains closed while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination of the scene, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users who were travelling on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, between approximately 2.15am and 2.45am on Sunday morning and who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
