Planning permission has been sought to demolish Lidl’s existing supermarket on the Tramore Road in Waterford and replace it with a significantly larger store.

The proposed development would see the current 1,711-square-metre supermarket demolished and replaced with a new 2,571.8-square-metre Lidl store, including an ancillary off-licence.

The plans also include the reconfiguration of the site, with 77 car parking spaces replacing the existing 126 spaces, a new public plaza with pedestrian access from the R675, bicycle parking, trolley bays, a standalone ESB substation, a service and delivery area, updated hard and soft landscaping, building-mounted signage, a totem sign and photovoltaic solar panels.

Access to the development would remain via the existing vehicular entrance from the R675 (Tramore Road).

The planning application has been lodged with Waterford City and County Council and will be considered as part of the planning process.

A decision on the application is due by September 30th.
