The scene of a fatal assault in Waterford City remains preserved this morning as a technical examination takes place.

Gardaí in Waterford are investigating the fatal assault which occurred in Grange Heights yesterday evening (Monday).

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident at a domestic residence at approximately 6:15pm.

A woman (40s) was taken to University Hospital Waterford where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man (40s) was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at a Garda station in the Waterford Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene at Grange Heights remains preserved this morning .


A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation. An incident room has been established at Waterford Garda Station.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Anyone who was in the Grange Heights area on Monday, 27th of April between 6pm and 6:30pm who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.
