Hundreds of people attended a vigil yesterday evening to pay tribute to the four members of the English family killed in this week’s arson attack.

The incident, which occurred in Birchwood in the early hours of Tuesday morning, has generated huge shock and sadness in the local area.

Family members, friends and neighbours gathered at the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly to pray for Kim and Philip English and their sons Callum and Jayden.

The couple’s two surviving children remain critically ill in hospital in Dublin.

The vigil was organised by the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore to allow members of the local community to come together in support and solidarity.

Some of those in attendance availed of refreshments in the Sacred Heart Parish Centre afterwards.

Members of the Waterford and South-East branch of the Samaritans were on hand to provide information on available supports.
