A Waterford man has been fined €2,500 in connection with the misuse of marked mineral oil, commonly known as green diesel.

Desmond Breen, of Forest Lodge, Gortavicary, Lemybrien, Co Waterford, was named in Revenue records relating to penalties imposed in respect of tax or duty offences.

The €2,500 fine relates to the misuse of marked mineral oil, commonly known as green diesel.

Green diesel is rebated fuel intended for permitted uses, including qualifying agricultural purposes. Its misuse as a motor vehicle propellant can result in the payment of a penalty where the appropriate fuel duties have not been paid.

Revenue has been carrying out enforcement work in relation to the misuse of marked mineral oil, with details of relevant cases published as part of its tax and duty enforcement information.

The Revenue records describe the published cases as those in which a court has determined a penalty relating to a settlement, or has imposed a fine, imprisonment or another penalty in respect of a tax or duty offence.

Breen’s case carries a €2,500 fine.
