Four Dungarvan car parks will close this evening as a precaution amid concerns over potential coastal flooding.

Waterford is currently under a Status Yellow wind and rain warning, which will remain in place until 9pm this evening, Tuesday, September 29th.

Waterford City and County Council says onshore winds, high tides and elevated surge levels could lead to flooding in coastal areas.

As a precaution Waterford City and County Council has advised, Davitt’s Quay, The Pond, The Lookout and Castle Street car parks in Dungarvan will close to the public from 7.30pm this evening until 8am tomorrow morning.

Motorists are being advised not to leave vehicles parked overnight in any of the affected car parks.

Potential impacts from the weather also include fallen trees and branches, localised flooding and loose debris.

Drivers are being urged to exercise caution and remain conscious of vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

The public is also being advised to stay away from coastal areas and follow the Irish Coast Guard message to “stay back, stay high and stay dry”.
