Members of the public in Waterford are being invited to attend a free health roadshow in City Square where they can speak with specialist cancer nurses and get advice on cancer prevention and early detection.

The Irish Cancer Society’s ‘Your Health Matters’ Roadshow will be at the Shopping Centre in Waterford from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday August 19th and Thursday August 20th.

People can drop in and speak with one of the specialist cancer nurses about any questions or concerns they may have. No booking is required.

Free health checks will also be available, including blood pressure, body mass index and carbon monoxide readings.

Information will be provided on cancer prevention, screening and how to recognise some of the early signs and symptoms of cancer.

A referral to a GP can also be arranged where further medical advice or support is needed.

The Irish Cancer Society says early detection and diagnosis of cancer is important in improving health outcomes. When cancer is diagnosed early, it can improve quality of life, increase survival rates and reduce the severity of treatment.

The roadshow is also aimed at encouraging people to seek medical advice if they notice possible cancer symptoms, particularly those who may find it difficult to attend GP appointments.

The ‘Your Health Matters’ initiative promotes positive lifestyle changes, raises awareness of cancer symptoms and encourages people to seek medical advice at an early stage.

In 2025, the roadshow visited 20 locations around the country and engaged with more than 29,900 people about the signs and symptoms of cancer.
