A new community project aimed at brightening up Cappoquin and celebrating local pride is set to take place next month.

Volunteers, residents and community groups are being invited to take part in the initiative on June 6th from 9am, with work planned on the wall beside the school in Cappoquin.

The project is being organised by local councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy, who says the aim is to showcase the strong community spirit within the town.

The initiative will involve cleaning and painting the wall, along with installing signs representing local community groups and organisations.

Part of the wall will also be dedicated to the West Waterford Mental Health Awareness Wall of Hope project to help promote positivity and mental health awareness in the area.

Cllr. Mulcahy says he was inspired by a similar project he completed in Tallow a number of years ago.

He says the previous initiative transformed the area and showed what could be achieved when communities come together and take pride in their town.

Waterford City and County Council is supplying paint for the project, while all work on the day will be carried out on a voluntary basis.

Cllr. Mulcahy is encouraging anybody who can spare a few hours to get involved and help make Cappoquin a brighter and more welcoming place.
