There are calls for greater clarity over continued delays at Dungarvan Driving Test Centre, with 876 people waiting for a driving test as of August 2026.

Applicants across Dungarvan and West Waterford have reported having their estimated invitation dates pushed back repeatedly, with some saying their dates have been changed three or four times.

The issue has been raised with the Road Safety Authority and Minister for Transport Seán Canney, with calls for an explanation as to why estimated invitation dates are continuing to change.

There are also calls for information on whether the number of people waiting in the queue, tester availability or other operational issues are contributing to the delays.

The delays are having an impact on learners who rely on a driving licence to access employment, education, apprenticeships and training opportunities.

Cllr Kate O’Mahoney and Cllr Donnchadh Mulcahy are calling on the RSA and the Minister to outline what measures are being taken to reduce the waiting list and provide greater certainty for applicants.

They say people waiting for a test should be given meaningful information about when they can expect to receive an invitation, and that the issue will continue to be raised with the Minister and the RSA.
