Body recovered off Galway coast after search operation

The body of a man has been recovered from the Atlantic off the coast of County Galway today (Saturday).
Gardaí and the Coast Guard were alerted after a boat carrying three men encountered trouble off the coast of County Galway, north of St. Macdara’s Island, shortly before 3 a.m. on Saturday, 16th May 2026.
Two crew members made it safely to shore unharmed, while the Coast Guard continued searching for the third individual.

Shortly before 8 am, the body of a 30-year-old man was recovered along the shoreline.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner has been notified, and the man’s body has been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway (UHG), where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
