
A man’s body has been recovered following a search operation in Cappoquin after reports of a car entering the River Blackwater on Sunday evening.
Emergency services were first alerted shortly after 8 pm on Sunday, May 3rd, when witnesses reported seeing a vehicle enter the water.
A search operation involving local emergency responders was launched on Sunday night; however, no vehicle or occupants were located during the initial search.
The operation was stood down in the early hours of Monday morning, at approximately 2 am, before resuming later that morning.
Gardaí, assisted by local fire services and the Fermoy Sub Aqua Unit, continued search efforts on Monday, during which the body of a man aged in his 20s was recovered from the water.
The body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The local Coroner has been notified, and the outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
Gardaí have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
