An award-winning Waterford dairy enterprise will open its gates to the public next week as part of the Tirlan Summer Series.

The Fitzgerald Farm near Portlaw, run by Shane and Kate Fitzgerald alongside Shane’s father John, will host an Open Farm Evening on Wednesday, 22nd July at 6.30pm.

The Fitzgeralds, recently named Tirlan Milk Suppliers of the Year and Farming Ambassadors of the Year, are renowned for welcoming visitors – from school groups to fellow farmers – to see first-hand how they run their operation.

On the night, they will outline the background to their farm, its expansion over the past decade, and their focus on the three pillars of sustainability: environmental care, farm profitability, and work–life balance.

The event will feature a farm walk with multiple stations highlighting top-class grassland management and practical on-farm innovations.

Tirlan’s milk solids team will also be on hand for one-to-one advice on managing fodder, supplementation, and maintaining grass in the diet.

The evening will conclude with a barbecue, offering a social setting for farmers to exchange ideas on the award-winning Fitzgerald farm.
