Talk about a cool day at the office! A mother and daughter who are both pilots have made Aer Lingus history after flying a plane together.

Sonya Bissett and her daughter Lara Danaher were Captain and Co-Pilot on a flight to Frankfurt recently, with both saying it was a very special moment.

Lara, who earned her wings in January and was sweetly presented them by her mum, said she’d ‘always dreamed of’ flying with her mum.

After the flight, Lara shared a now-viral TikTok made up of photos and clips of them working together.

She said: ‘It was an honour to get to fly with my mom as Captain and First Officer for the first time, a moment I’ve always dreamed of.’

Hundreds of people reacted to her lovely post, with several saying they were on the flight and cheering for the mother and daughter when an announcement saying they were in control together was made.

‘This is the flex you think it is, so cool,’ wrote one person, while another said: ‘This is so amazing! And inspiring for all women.’

Someone else told Lara, ‘Your mam must be so proud’, and another said the flight must have been ‘the safest flight in the world.’

Sonya also posted about the special moment, writing on LinkedIn: ‘What an absolute honour to have my daughter Lara Danaher as my First Officer today on EI650/651.

‘A huge thank you to the crew who made it so special for us. A day I will treasure.’

Sharing Sonya and Lara’s story, Aer Lingus posted a photo of them and the cabin crew on the plane.

‘A rare and special occurrence this week…Captain and Co-Pilot = Mother and Daughter,’ they wrote. ‘The first time in Aer Lingus history. Huge congratulations to Sonya and Lara on a truly remarkable achievement.’

Dr Norah Patten, who is hoping to be the first Irish person to go to space, said Sonya and Lara’s achievement was ‘fantastic’ while Maïa Dunphy said it was ‘very cool.’

‘Go on, Ladies! So cool,’ wrote someone else, and another person said: ‘That is just so awesome!!! Girl power… congrats to mother and daughter.’
