Twenty new bungalows have been unveiled in the Newtown area of Tramore as part of Waterford City and County Council’s programme to provide dedicated housing for older people.

The homes are located at Harmony Heights and consist of four one-bedroom terraced bungalows and sixteen two-bedroom terraced bungalows.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Eamon Quinlan has welcomed the development and is encouraging eligible applicants to apply through the Council’s Choice Based Letting system.

Applications are open to people aged 55 and over, with the deadline for applications set for Friday, July 31st, 2026.

The development is designed to support older people who may wish to ‘rightsize’ from larger family homes into properties that are easier to maintain and more suitable for long-term mobility.

The bungalows are located close to amenities including Newtown Cove, the Guillamene and Tramore Pier, with nearby bus services also providing access to the wider area.

Councillor Quinlan says the development can also help create safe and connected communities, with residents living alongside people of a similar age.

He also says that by moving into more suitable accommodation, older residents can free up larger three- and four-bedroom homes for families who need additional space.
