Having already seen an Irish rugby star nab a last-minute Love Island win, GAA fans everywhere are wondering if one of their own can repeat the feat.

Galway footballer Seán Fitzgerald is appearing on the forthcoming series after being noticeably absent in the regional final against Roscommon last week.

With Seán now confirmed for a stint in the villa, here’s what you need to know about him…

Playing career

Seán, also known as ‘Fitzy’ is 25 years old and made his debut for Galway in 2022, and has collected four Connacht SFC medals since then.

He was also instrumental in Galway’s All-Ireland final against Armagh in 2024.

Life away from the pitch

Away from GAA, Seán works as a primary school teacher, which would likely stand to him in the villa when it comes to dealing with rowdy islanders.

He has stars in his eyes!

Seán might be eying up a long game in the spotlight. He has built up an impressive following online with 94.3K followers on TikTok and another 25k on Instagram.

He is also signed up to the Marvel Talent Agency.

But what about Love Island?!

Back in February, Seán expressed his interest in joining Love Island by posting his ‘application video’ online.

‘Love Island, please have me, and this is why’, he announced while joking about all his ‘undiagnosed’ conditions and dancing chaotically.

‘One thing I do not understand is how anyone has not done yet, you know, when people are sleeping or they’re getting active, they’re kissing, whatever…how has no one decided to scare someone while they’re doing it, I just think it would be the funniest… If I was watching Love Island and I saw that, I would p**s myself laughing.’

He also admits he can’t just be normal and Irish when approaching a girl, but instead puts all of his undiagnosed conditions on her to see if their energies match.

Hobbies and guilty pleasures!

Seán’s passions away from the pitch include heading to Coppers, although he doesn’t drink.

He also told RSVP that the greatest loves of his life are Boojum and chicken wings from Seven. His biggest fear is not reaching his full potential.

He’s definitely superstitious!

Seán admitted that he has to wear a jumper or jacket over his jersey before a match for luck, regardless of the weather.
