The latest Love Island arrival has barely unpacked his suitcase, and already there’s confusion in the villa, not over a love triangle, but over a nickname.
12 singletons entered the famous Majorcan villa on Monday night (June 1), with Galway teacher and GAA star Seán Fitzgerald flying the flag for Ireland.
Irish fans already know him by one name and one name only: Fitzy. The problem? Most of the Islanders have only been introduced to Seán.

Now, UK viewers of the hit show are joking that half the villa seems convinced there are two different people walking around.
Seán’s social media followers have long known him by his online handle ‘Fitzy’, a nickname that has followed him throughout his football and social media career.
Reports introducing the Irish contestant have even referred to him as ‘Sean Fitzy‘ or noted that he’s widely known as Fitzy among fans.
Why’s he going by Fitzy and not Sean in there 😭

But inside the villa, things appear a little less straightforward.
One minute, someone is talking about Seán. The next minute, it’s Fitzy, and social media is ablaze with confusion.
‘Where did he get Fitzy from?? Sean but Fitzy #loveislanduk,’ one user wrote, while another chimed in: ‘Bro why the hell did sean lie say his name is fitzy wtf.’
Sean how do you get a name like Fitzy?😭😭😭 #loveisland #loveislandUK

Fans quickly took to the comments to explain the nickname to those tuning in outside of Ireland.
‘He’s not lying. It’s from Fitzgerald.. It’s EXTREMELY normal in Ireland if you play sports to be known by your surname or a Version of it. And also, multiple ppl on his team will be called Sean,’ one wrote on X.
‘Short for Fitzgerald, you plank,’ another penned.

One thing is certain: whether he’s Seán, Fitzy, or ‘that Irish lad everyone seems to like’, he’s already making an impression in the villa.
Eyebrows were raised on Monday night after one of the contestants, Robyn, couldn’t believe the Galway man wasn’t a natural blonde.
Before heading into the villa, Seán opted for a new look, buzzing his luscious locks and becoming a bottle blonde.
However, despite his hair being seemingly far from au naturale, Robyn was convinced.
‘Is that dyed? Don’t lie,’ she remarked during a flirty exchange, with Seán assuming the dramatic change was ‘obviously’ fake.
‘I thought you was a natural goddess,’ she added, with fans cracking up at the misunderstanding.
Love Island is available on Virgin Media Play & Virgin Media Two.
