Lyra has revealed that her body is often the subject of scrutiny from fans, with people frequently messaging her to say she has lost or gained weight.

The Cork singer decided to speak out about body positivity on Monday after a post she shared in a bikini soaking up the August Bank Holiday sunshine sparked an influx of messages.

Lyra shared the important message alongside shots of herself looking confident in a black bikini while on holidays.

The crooner, who has long promoted body positivity, told fans that ‘every body is enough.’

‘Some bodies are naturally slim, some are curvier, some are athletic, and some change through different seasons of life. None of them need permission to be seen,’ she penned.

She opened up about people critiquing her for ‘losing too much weight’ while she was touring. Recently, she has experienced the other side of the coin, as people write to say she has ‘put the weight back on.’

‘It really reminded me that people will always have an opinion about women’s bodies.’

‘The truth is, my body changes with my life. When I’m on tour, I’m training hard, doing loads of cardio and running around like a mad woman on stage for 90 minutes every night.’

‘Right now I’m in album-writing mode, spending long days on the sofa writing or in the studio recording, pouring everything into making music I can’t wait for you to hear,’ she explained.

Lyra added: ‘Neither version of me is better than the other. They’re just different seasons of my life.’

She told fans that the post should act as a reminder that you ‘don’t have to earn the right’ to wear a bikini this summer, adding that it is something she often needs to hear herself.

‘Be kind to yourself, and let’s spend a little less time commenting on bodies and a little more time celebrating the people in them.’
