A gripping thriller which shines a spotlight on a dark chapter in Irish history has soared to the top of the charts on Netflix.

The Woman in the Wall is a six-part series from the BBC which follows a survivor of one of Ireland’s brutal Magdalene Laundries.

Lorna Brady (Ruth Wilson) is based in the fictional town of Kilkinure and she is trying to find out whether her daughter Agnes has survived decades after her time in a convent.

She is given a new lease of hope after she receives a letter from someone who knows what happened to her daughter.

Disaster strikes however when she wakes up the next morning to find a corpse in her house and she has no idea who the dead woman is.

Having long suffered from extreme bouts of sleepwalking she is left with gaps in her memory and is subsequently filled with doubt.

The twisty thriller also stars Amy Huberman’s brother Mark Huberman as Michael Kearney, rising Irish actor Daryl McCormack as Detective Colman Akande and Simon Delaney as local guard Sergeant Aidan Massey.

The plot thickens as they separately investigate another mystery.

As Lorna searches for her daughter and Colman is on the hunt for the murderer, they end up working together to piece together events that can be linked.

With a dark humorous side, this gothic thriller is one to add to your must-watch list.
