Eve Hewson shares a close bond with her famous parents, U2 frontman Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, but the actress decided not to tell them about some of the biggest career news she received.

The Dublin girl was so stunned when she found out that renowned director Stephen Spielberg wanted her to star in his new film, Disclosure Day, that she felt she couldn’t tell anyone.

Eve recalled the ‘weird panic attack’ she had after finding out she had landed a role in the sci-fi flick, alongside Hollywood A-Listers like Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, and Josh O’Connor.

‘I had some sort of weird panic attack when I found out that Stephen wanted to speak to me about a movie, so I kept it a secret for some reason,’ she laughed as she told RTÉ.

‘I don’t think I told my family. I didn’t tell anybody for a while, and I just had all this weird energy in my body, and I didn’t know what to do with it,’ she laughed.

The 34-year-old’s next move was even more unexpected, as she decided to buy herself an excessive amount of an odd clothing item.

‘I just drove to the Westfield Century City Mall, and bought loads of socks. Actually, this was like it was like a panic buy situation. I was like, ” Oh my God, oh my God, what do I do with this energy?” So yeah, and I still have those socks.’

Eve has worked with Stephen in the past, having acted in his Cold War spy drama Bridge of Spies over a decade ago. However, it was Sharon Horgan’s Bad Sisters that caught Spielberg’s attention.

He knew Eve was the woman for the job after watching the black comedy. ‘I thought of her because I was a big fan of Bad Sisters. I thought she did extraordinary work in that. So, she got the part pretty quickly,’ he told RTÉ.

Eve plays Jane Blankenship in the film. She serves as a former nun whose partner, Daniel, becomes a whistleblower to expose a government cover-up regarding alien contact.
