Siobhán McSweeney had viewers in stitches after giving a brilliantly honest answer when she was asked what makes someone a good Traitor.
The actress, who has become a familiar face to Irish viewers through The Traitors, was chatting to Patrick Kielty on the first Late Late Show of the season about the hit reality series when the conversation turned to the cast — and just how badly some of them fared as Faithfuls.
McSweeney didn’t hold back when discussing the group’s detective skills, joking that the cast had been ‘terrible Faithfuls’ as they tried to work out who was secretly working against them.
But it was when she was asked the seemingly simple question of what actually makes a good Traitor that the interview took an unexpected turn.
Her answer? ‘I don’t know.’ The wonderfully straight-faced response has given fans another reason to love McSweeney’s no-nonsense personality.
Rather than pretending to have all the answers, the actress simply admitted she didn’t know what the secret ingredient was, despite having plenty of experience watching the game unfold from the inside.
The clip has been doing the rounds online, giving viewers a lighter moment amid a much more serious Late Late Show discussion about Ireland’s mother and baby homes and the new film The Lost Children of Tuam.
And McSweeney’s blunt response is certainly a reminder that sometimes the funniest television moments are the ones that aren’t planned at all.
‘Siobhán has officially become a national treasure. Give her the keys.’ one viewer wrote on social media, clearly enamoured by McSweeney’s candor.
‘Siobhan is top class,’ another penned, while a third added: ‘Siobhain is such a tonic.’
She may not know what makes a great Traitor, but she certainly knows how to deliver a great one-liner.
