The dramatic moment Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett tumbled from the stage during the band’s Dublin gig is going viral on social media.

The 63-year-old rock legend took a fall while performing in front of an estimated 40,000 fans at the Aviva Stadium on Friday night, as Metallica kicked off the first of two huge Irish shows on their M72 World Tour.

Fan-shot footage shared on social media shows Hammett losing his footing near the edge of the stage while playing the band’s classic 1983 anthem Seek & Destroy.

Concertgoers can be seen reaching out as the musician dropped from the stage, with several rushing to help while others watched on in shock.

The mishap occurred during the first of Metallica’s two sold-out Dublin dates this weekend. The metal giants return to the Aviva Stadium for a second show tonight.

The Dublin dates mark Metallica’s first concerts in the city since 2009 and are among only three stops on the European leg of the M72 World Tour to feature two full stadium shows.
