Angela Scanlon has ruffled a few feathers as she hosts the Eurovision Song Contest for the BBC, despite Ireland’s decision to boycott the event over Israel’s involvement.

The Meath woman, who is hosting Britain’s broadcast of the competition alongside Rylan Clark, has been accused of ‘crossing the picket line’ by fans after hosting the opening semi-final on Tuesday night.

RTÉ confirmed in December that it would neither compete in nor broadcast any of the three Eurovision shows this week for the first time in 61 years. The national broadcaster cited the ‘appalling loss of lives in Gaza’ as the reason for the boycott.

Angela has fronted several RTÉ programs in the past, including her own chat show, Ask Me Anything. Fans were quick to call her decision out online, with many saying they are ‘very disappointed in her’ for ‘crossing the picket line.’

‘RTÉ confirmed in December that it would neither compete in nor broadcast any of the three Eurovision shows this week for the first time in 61 years,’ one person commented on Angela’s social media.

‘Ireland is sad about this, Angela,’ another person wrote, while a third added: ‘Very disappointed to see this, seeing as Ireland boycotted this year! I guess money talks!’

‘Incredibly disappointed in @angelascanlon for crossing the picket line. Eurovision needs to be boycotted until apartheid Israel is removed from the competition and no longer allowed to culture wash their genocide.’

However, some of Angela’s famous friends defended the 42-year-old’s move, with her podcast co-host Vicky Pattison commenting: ‘You SMASHED IT!!!! And what a duo,’ while This Morning’s Alison Hammond wrote: ‘Yass!!!’

Angela looked glam in front of the camera as she hosted the show, buttoning up a navy blazer, which she wore over a lace skirt. The mum-of-two styled her hair into loose curls and parted it to the side as she posed up a storm alongside Rylan.
