Maura Higgins has announced she is stepping down from her role on Love Island and will not be returning to the set in Fiji this year.

Maura has presented the Aftersun segment of Love Island for the past three years, but earlier this year, it was announced that a number of other massive television opportunities are coming her way.

Aftersun is the companion show to Love Island, and features chats with the islanders who find themselves dumped from the show, catches up on all the gossip from the villa, and features a panel of celebrity fans of Love Island.

Love Island USA will hit TV screens with season 8 premiering on June 2 this year, but without the wit, personality, and fun presenting style of Maura Higgins.

Maura was thrust into the headlines after her stint on the TV show Traitors US Season 4, and became a household name in the US after the public fell in love with her no-nonsense, fun personality.

In an interview with Vulture, 35-year-old Maura Higgins officially announced her new plans, saying she had done her time on Love Island.

She said: ‘I’ve done it for three years, and they’ll always be family to me, but I think it’s time to try something different.

The Irish beauty was announced as one of the contestants taking part in ‘Dancing with the Stars USA,’ and now Maura has decided to step back from filming the sun-soaked hit dating show.

The Longford woman explained, ‘I’ve got amazing opportunities coming in the door, I think it’s time to say goodbye.’

Speaking about appearing on Dancing with the Stars US, Maura admitted that she has never learned to dance, but is looking forward to throwing herself into it all and learning.

Appearing on Good Morning America last month, Maura spoke about her upcoming foray into the world of dance and spoke about how far she wants to go in the show, admitting that she’s already eyeing up the glitterball trophy.

‘If I could get to the finale, I’d be over the moon,’ Maura said. ‘Obviously, I’d love to win. I’ve never won a show. I’ve never won anything apart from the free Birkin [on the Traitors]!

‘Obviously, it’d be a dream to win, but I mean, I don’t know about that,’ she admitted. ‘It’s hard to tell, because I don’t know what to expect, and it’s completely out of my comfort zone, but I’ll hope for the best.’
