We love when the Cannes Film Festival rolls around, because it brings all the celeb friendships we forgot about out of the shadows.
At the same time, it’s a space for others, who mightn’t necessarily ever cross paths in a work capacity to forge friendships.
And it seems that that’s exactly what has happened for two of our favourite Irish actors: Emmett J. Scanlan and Anthony Boyle.
Anthony is on the French Riviera ahead of the premiere of his upcoming drama film, I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning.
The Belfast man stars opposite Lola Petticrew and Daryl McCormack in the movie, which will premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight section on May 20.
Emmett, on the other hand, appears to have been invited on a whim at the ‘last minute’; but who wouldn’t want to have his star power around!?
Emmett and Anthony crossed paths at the Vanity Fair x IHG Hotels & Resorts Cannes Opening Lunch on Wednesday, and we’re so glad they did, because they’re the unlikely duo we never knew we needed, but now want more of!
The MobLand actor shared a selfie of himself and Anthony as they enjoyed a tipple in the sun, writing: ‘Spent the last two days in Cannes.
‘Glorious lunches. Glorious hospitality. With glorious people. If I’m being honest, I never expected to be invited to Cannes; it was all very last-minute. And if I’m being brutally honest, the morning after, this morning just gone, I wish I hadn’t been..,’ he joked of his undoubtedly raging hangover.
Emmett’s quick trip to Cannes comes after he attended the 2026 BAFTA Television Awards with his gorgeous wife, Claire Cooper, on Sunday, May 10.
The Fool Me Once actor looked suitably dapper in a black tuxedo, while his wife, Claire, looked sensational in a deep fuchsia gown.
Claire’s dress was a dramatic, floor-length satin number. It boasted an uber-flattering sweetheart neckline and a sculpted bodice with gathered, twisted draping at the centre of the bust.
The silhouette flowed elegantly to the ground rather than being tight-fitting. The full skirt had movement and subtle volume, allowing for the perfect red-carpet snaps.
It’s been quite a few days for Emmett, that’s for sure!
