Two presenters with very different styles came together at the Town Hall Theatre in Galway city this week: Ryan Tubridy and Tommy Tiernan.
Ryan was hosting his Bookshelf Live show in the west of the country, inviting fans to join them while they chatted about everything from life, love and of course his favourite books.
Posting a picture on his social media, Ryan was met with several comments about the presenters coming head-to-head.

Writing in the Irish Daily Mail this weekend, Ryan highlighted how ‘Tommy Tiernan was the perfect guest. A masterful storyteller, he took us through his life via some intriguing book choices’
‘As always, I kicked off by answering a series of questions from the audience mixed in with old war stories from my career so far and then it was time to introduce our star guest, Tommy Tiernan, right. I know Tommy and I don’t know Tommy. We’re not showbiz pals by any Galway means but I’ve always and has enjoyed his company, whether as a guest or in passing at a gig. I was delighted when he agreed to be the Galway guest as he’s a local and has plenty to say about the city and county.’
‘In fairness to him, he has lots to say about everything. He spoke movingly about life at home as a youngster and, of course, had the crowd roaring with laughter when he described his school days in Navan before mesmerising the hall with readings from books and authors he has admired over the years.
‘As you’d expect, he was a thoughtful, funny and engaging guest who brought his best game to the theatre on Tuesday and I was most appreciative of that.’

Posting a picture of the pair on Ryan’s social media, he wrote, Little did I know three years ago that I would be touring theatres around Irish cities with a storytelling show playing to curious crowds but here we are and I wouldn’t have it any other way. On to the next adventure.’
And it looked like those who attended the event enjoyed the gig just as much as Ryan and Tommy, according to messages posted online.

One kept it short: ‘Two genuine sound lads,’ while another wrote ‘Absolutely fabulous show, your own first bit and then the funny insightful chat with Tommy. Well worth the drive from Portlaoise’
And it looks like both touched on plenty of stories, ‘Thank you for a beautiful evening. Very entertaining, love the White House and Russell Crowe stories. Come back soon.’
With others wanting more… ‘A fantastic show. Loved the chats. Another hour would have been so good. Loved ur story on White House.’
Maybe we may see Ryan on Tommy’s show for next season.
