CMAT has joked that the A stands for some of the most iconic lyrics in pop history, as she linked up with the man behind them.

It’s been a banner year for Ciara Mary Alice Thompson (what CMAT actually stands for), with her song When A Good Man Cries being covered by Olivia Rodrigo.

With CMAT inviting the Drop Dead hitmaker for a pint in her native Dunboyne, the woman known as Dunboyne Diana has had a year of legendary link-ups — including with a pop legend backstage.

CMAT smiled for the cameras alongside Robbie Williams backstage at the latter’s gig in Luxexpo Open Air in Luxembourg. She opened for the former Take That-turned-cat food spokesperson, with the pair being photographed joking around backstage.

‘The A in CMAT stands for And through it allllllllllll,’ CMAT wrote. ‘I’ve loved you forever Robbie.’

CMAT wore a Robbie t-shirt in the style of the iconic Oasis logo — a layered outfit choice given Robbie’s personal history with the Gallaghers — with the singer and the Very Sexy CMAT Band enjoying a libation backstage.

‘CMAT you are my Robbie Williams,’ a follower of hers commented, while another implored them to sing Robbie and Kylie Minogue’s hit Kids together.

‘The collab we all needed,’ another wrote, while another commented: ‘We’re gonna need that bestselling duet right now… x.’

Following Olivia Rodrigo’s cover of When A Good Man Cries, CMAT was blown away by both the fact that such a high-profile singer would cover her music, and also joking that ‘her career is over’ because ‘She sang it so much better than me.’

The singers did get to speak to each other during Olivia’s later appearance on BBC Radio 1, with CMAT admitting that she didn’t register that Olivia would be calling herself Dunboyne Diana.

‘I’m happy I pronounced it right,’ Olivia responded, ‘I had a moment where I was like, “Wait, what if I mispronounce it?”

‘The first time I did listen to it, I thought it was Des Moines. There’s a place in America called Des Moines. But, since then I have done my research on Dunboyne and I have, now you have to take me.’

CMAT revealed: ‘I don’t know if you know, but there’s a giant mural of me on the side of the wall going into the village.

‘I think that if I brought you, they would put a mural of you on the other side.’

‘Let’s do it!’ Olivia encouraged, ‘Sign me up. We’re going to play a show.’
